Lawmakers Respond to I-Team Investigation on Separation of Families

Lawmakers demand reform in response to an I-Team investigation that revealed budget cuts are forcing family courtrooms to close early, with traumatic consequences for children. In some child neglect investigations, the 4:30 p.m. cutoff means there’s no time for judges to decide if it’s necessary to remove children. Critics say the policy has become “remove children today, have a hearing about it tomorrow.” Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and mayoral frontrunner Bill de Blasio weigh in. Melissa Russo Reports.
