Jury Picked for Corruption Trial of US Sen. Bob Menendez

The corruption trial of Sen. Robert Menendez began Tuesday as attorneys gathered to pick a jury. The stakes are high for the senior senator of New Jersey. Brian Thompson reports.

Attorneys have selected a jury for the upcoming corruption trial of Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez.

The panel of six men and six women plus four alternates was selected Wednesday afternoon, a day after the questioning began.

Menendez and a wealthy campaign donor are charged with a bribery scheme involving gifts and donations in return for political influence.

The donor, Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen, is on trial with Menendez.

Opening statements are scheduled for Sept. 6. The trial is expected to last about two months.
