A search of a New York City livery cab found idling in a northern New Jersey city has turned up drugs, law enforcement officials say.
The Passaic County Sherriff's office says 28-year-old Fausto Pena-Drew of the Bronx was arrested after police seized 1,250 glassine envelopes hidden under a seat and $1,170 in cash from a 2013 Honda Accord with New York livery plates that Pena-Drew had been driving. It's not known if he has an attorney.
Sheriff Richard Berdnik tells The Record that Pena-Drew allegedly acted nervous under questioning and couldn't explain why he was driving a livery cab in Paterson.
Berdnik says police also became suspicious after detecting a strong odor of air freshener in the car, which is often used to conceal the smell of narcotics.
