Police are investigating after a man was shot on a Harlem street Wednesday evening.

The 32-year-old victim was shot in the torso on East 127th Street at about 7:30 p.m., according to police.

Law enforcement sources said a gunman approached the victim, fired multiple shots and then ran away in the opposite direction.

The victim stumbled across the street before collapsing half a block away, law enforcement sources said.

A dozen shell casings were found at the scene; one had richocheted off a car and went through a building window across the street, according to the sources. Other gunshots may have hit buildings as well.

The victim was taken to Harlem Hospital and is expected to survive. He has a lengthy criminal history, with 17 prior arrests including murder, according to sources.

It's not clear if a suspect has been identified.

Another street shooting in the area Tuesday night resulted in a gunman being shot by detectives who happened to be in the area on East 101st Street.

On Wednesday, police in the Bronx fatally shot a man who allegedly held a gun to his girlfriend's head and then pointed his gun at the officers.

The shootings come just as the NYPD is preparing to launch its Summer All Out program, which floods higher-crime neighborhoods with more police officers in an effort to quell stubborn pockets of gunplay.

There were 143 murders in the city through Sunday, up from 121 during the same period last year. The number of shootings also has soared, from 428 to 451, NYPD statistics show, though City Hall officials say the increase in violence has largely been contained to a few problematic areas, like swaths of the South Bronx and central Brooklyn.
