Foundation Created for Boy Who Died of Enterovirus

The father of 4-year-old Eli Waller speaks out about his son’s death from enterovirus and the family’s mission to honor him. Brian Thompson reports.

The family of a 4-year-old New Jersey boy who died from enterovirus 68 has launched a foundation to support special needs children in his memory.

Andy Waller spoke Friday about the creation of The First Day of School Foundation after his son, Eli, died last month. The virus, which causes severe respiratory illness, has struck children around the country.

The foundation will work with school districts to host fundraisers and donation drives to help special needs children, Waller said.

Waller said his son was the smallest of three triplets and had speech and learning disabilities. He said working with teachers and after-school activities helped him.
