Loud Noise, Not Explosion, Causes Confusion in NYC

Authorities responded to a report of an explosion in a building on the East Side of Manhattan Monday, but it turned out to be unfounded, caused by a loud noise.

The noise at 88 Lexington Ave., near 26th Street in Gramercy Park, apparently caused the confusion and massive response by police, fire and EMS.

The FDNY said later that there was no explosion. No one was injured.
