Exclusive: Chaos Near Penn Station as Cleaver-Wielding Suspect Runs from Cops, Gets Shot

Surveillance video obtained exclusively by NBC 4 New York shows the chaos and panic near Penn Station at the height of rush hour Thursday when a cleaver-wielding suspect ran through the street being chased by police. The suspect, identified by police as Akram Joudeh, sprints on West 32nd Street as he gets boxed in by police, and people on the street scatter as Joudeh jumps onto the hood of marked NYPD car, then falls off. Joudeh does not stop — he fights with several officers and at some point hits the off-duty detective with the cleaver, and police open fire. Bystanders behind police, meanwhile, immediately duck for cover, hiding behind a car, and one woman even hides behind a wheelchair.
