Elderly Woman Killed by Yellow Cab in Lower Manhattan: NYPD

A woman was struck and killed by a taxi in downtown Manhattan on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The elderly woman was hit by a yellow cab at Centre and Broome streets shortly after 4 p.m., the NYPD said.

She was walking in the crosswalk when she was struck by the cab, which was trying to make a left turn, police said.

Officers found her lying in the road with severe head trauma, police say. She was pronounced dead at New York Downtown Hospital.

Bouchouata Miloudi, 44, remained at the scene, police said. He was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.

The victim's name wasn't released pending notification of relatives, but police said she appeared to be about 80 years old.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Miloudi had an attorney.
