Strangers Follow Students Near Bus Stops on L.I.: Police

Police are investigating two cases of children from Robert Front Middle School in Deer Park who say they were followed by strangers in cars near bus stops. News 4’s Gus Rosendale reports.

Police in Suffolk County are investigating two reports of middle school students being followed by strangers in cars near bus stops.

Parents at Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park received voicemails, text messages and emails Monday alerting them to the incidents.

The first was last Thursday morning near Washington Avenue and Hickory Street, when a small maroon or red car with tinted windows followed a female student and pulled up alongside her on the wrong side of the street. The girl ran to her mother, who in turn chased the car. The car sped off, running a stop sign.

Then on Friday, two men in a black car began following a student near Sunburst Drive and Headline Road, also on the wrong side of the street. The girl ran to her friends at her bus stop, and the car sped away, again running a stop sign.

Police are advising residents to report any unusual or suspicious activity.
