Police are searching for a man they say attempted to rape a 19-year-old woman as she walked home from a bus stop on Staten Island late Monday night.
The woman was walking from the bus stop in New Brighton at about 11 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind by a man, said police. The attacker forced her down to the ground and attempted to remove her pants and rape her.
The woman's screams alerted a passerby, who started to yell at the man attacking her. The assailant ran off.
The victim called police from the 400-block of Oakland Avenue.
The suspect is described as a man in his late teens to early 20s, with shoulder-length wavy blond hair in a pony-tail. He was wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt and light blue jeans, police said.
