Grizzly Bears Make Central Park Zoo Debut

Grizzly bears Betty and Veronica are ready for the bright lights of Manhattan.

The two, who have been mainstays at the Bronx Zoo since 1995, will make their debut at the Central Park Zoo on Friday, according to the organization that runs both of the zoos.

The Wildlife Conservation Society says the bears live in an exhibit that once housed the beloved polar bear Gus, who died last year.

Zoo officials say Betty and Veronica come when they're called, stand for a belly exam -- and even offer their claws for a nail trim.

Betty and Veronica will eventually be replaced by three orphaned grizzlies rescued in Montana last year. The cubs are being socialized at the Bronx Zoo.
