2 Found Dead After Suspicious Fire at Bronx Apartment Building: Source

The badly burned bodies of two men were found in the aftermath of a massive apartment fire, and police believe someone may have killed them. Ida Siegal reports.

Two men were found dead after firefighters extinguished what investigators consider to be a suspicious fire at a Bronx apartment building Wednesday morning, a law-enforcement official says.

Five dozen firefighters responded to the blaze on Story Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. They found the dead men in a bed after they doused the flames about an hour later, police said.

Detectives said they had moved into the apartment a few weeks ago.

An official familiar with the investigation says it appears the mattress the bodies were lying on had been set on fire. Sources say police also found a gun on the nightstand inside the apartment, and it appears at least one of the men had been shot or stabbed prior to the fire.

The medical examiner will determine how the people died.
