Boy, 3, Dies After Falling Out of Window

It’s an unimaginable nightmare for any parent who lives in a high-rise building. That nightmare is a reality in the Bronx after a 3-year-old plummets to his death from a 4th floor window. As News 4’s Gus Rosendale reports, the community is gathering in an effort to give some comfort to this heartbroken family.

A 3-year-old boy died after falling out of a window in the Bronx Saturday afternoon, police said.

The boy fell out of the fourth-floor window at 280 E. 161st St. in the Concourse Village section of the Bronx at about 3:45 p.m.

He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital in cardiac arrest and later died.

Neighbors said the boy's mother had left him with the superintendent while she went out to a nearby laundromat. It's not clear how he managed to fall out. Horrified witnesses who watched the tragic scene unfold from the street were unable to reach the boy in time.

"We heard a little kid screaming from the building. When we look up the kid is hanging out the window," said Frank White, who was standing across the street when the boy fell. "By the time we got right here to the sidewalk he already fell."

The boy was identified as Gabriel Estevez by neighbors.

"When I was told, I just really fell apart," said neighbor Lauren Valdes. "Everybody in the building loved him."
