Two firefighters were hurt in a fire that spread between very tight buildings in Williamsburg. Authorities say neighbors waited 30 minutes before calling 911. Gus Rosendale reports.
Two firefighters and two civilians were injured when a fire broke out in a Brooklyn building Tuesday, fire officials said.
The blaze started before 2 p.m. inside a three-story commercial and residential building at 175 Bedford Ave. between North Seventh and North Eighth streets in Williamsburg.
The firefighters were injured when the roof collapsed on them. They were taken to Weill Cornell Medial Center for minor injuries.
Two civilians were also treated for smoke inhalation.
Officials said 170 firefighters responded to the four-alarm blaze, which was brought under control by 3:30 p.m..
The Office of Emergency Management said that Bedford Avenue between North Fifth and North Ninth streets was closed off due to the fire activity.
