I-Team: 2 Years After 14-Year-Old Boy's Death, How Many Schools Have Alarms Under Avonte's Law?

Time has done little to dull Vanessa Fontaine’s anger at the senseless way her son died. Two years ago, Avonte Oquendo, who had autism, wandered away from his classroom at the Riverview School and ran out of an unmonitored door that had been left open. Months later, the 14-year-old boy’s remains were found in the water 11 miles away. Most NYC schools are supposed to get door alarms by December under Avonte’s Law. NBC New York’s I-Team looked into how many schools actually have the alarms installed right now. Pei-Sze Cheng reports.
