Alleged MS-13 Gang Members, Associate Arrested in Queens Shooting

The rising tide of gang violence across New York is getting Albany’s attention. The state Senate is considering arming law enforcement with new, tougher tools to fight the gangs. Wale Aliyu reports.

Federal authorities have arrested two alleged MS-13 gang members and an associate in connection with a shooting in Queens.

Jose Gonzalez, Kevin Paniagua and Francisco Ramos were arrested on charges of assault, attempted murder in aid of racketeering and firearms charges. Efforts to reach their lawyers for comment were not immediately successful.

Prosecutors say the Queens men beat another man because they believed he was a member of one of MS-13's chief rivals, the 18th Street gang.

One of the men also shot the victim in the head. He attempted to shoot him again but the gun jammed. Prosecutors say the victim is now a paraplegic.

They three men are scheduled to appear in Brooklyn federal court later Wednesday.
