Accused Bank Robber Arraigned at Hospital Bed

A man shot by a plainclothes security guard was arraigned Saturday in his hospital bed on an attempted bank robbery charge, prosecutors said.

Lashawn Pierre, 20, of Elmont, was charged with second-degree attempted robbery. He didn't enter a plea during his arraignment at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, according to a spokesperson at the Nassau County District Attorney's Office.

Pierre was wounded by a security guard at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday while he pointed a black handgun at a teller at the Chase Bank in Franklin Square, investigators said.

There were seven employees and eight customers inside the bank at the time, but no one was hurt.
