De Blasio Children to Intern at City Hall

Mayor de Blasio’s kids have a history of public service, including volunteering at food kitchens and handing out toys to children at the holidays. But for the next month, they’ll join the legions of high school and college students in a rite of passage by interning at City Hall. Contessa Brewer reports.

The de Blasio children are going into the family business this summer, taking unpaid internships at City Hall.

Dante de Blasio will intern for First Deputy Mayor Dominic Williams and Chiara de Blasio will work in the Office to Combat Domestic Violence, First Lady Chirlane McCray said in a Tumblr post Thursday

McCray, who herself takes no salary as the chairwoman of the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, said Dante, a rising senior at Brooklyn Tech High School, will be doing "typical intern stuff" such as organizing files and working on research projects.

Chiara, a 19-year-old college student, will work with an outreach program that contacts women in need. Chiara de Blasio has been vocal about her struggle with depression and addiction,

Mayor de Blasio got a waiver from the Conflict of Interest board because he was using his position to benefit his children and because the unpaid internships confer "prestige as well as experience that is not widely available and that many would regard as valuable," the Daily News reported
