What You're Doing Tonight, 5/22

A trailblazing black choir, love stories on a rooftop, and bubbles hit the big-time

MUSICAL HISTORY: Tennessee's Fisk Jubilee Singers may not raise an eyebrow now, but they were an all-black gospel choir who toured Europe in 1873. For real. The choir's legacy lives on in new generations of singers; soak up some history (and chills-giving spirituals) at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. 7PM.

UP ON THE ROOF: How better to welcome summer than to watch movies about love under the stars on a Lower East Side rooftop? The Open Road Rooftop Project and Babeland present Romantic Short Films: Endless Forgiveness, a program of forays into matters -- light and heavy -- of the heart. 8PM.

THIS BLOWS: You'd think an evening of performance dedicated entirely to soap bubbles would be safely this side of gripping, right? Unless it's the Gazillion Bubble Show, in which daring soapmasters (as in, they hold Guinness records) create amazing bubblescapes -- helped along by music and lights -- that'll leave you speechless. No, seriously. New World Stages, 7PM, through Sunday.
