People waiting on iPhone lines all over the country missed out the kind of sale we never dreamed in a million years we'd see: An Hermes Birkin bag on sale on Gilt Groupe.
The bag was one of nine Hermes bags to appear on a sale of vintage accessories by A Second Chance (which also featured a few chain-strap Chanel bags in the $2,000-$4,000 range) -- among them a 40CM Birkin ($9,000) and a 32CM Kelly ($4,500), both of which sold out in minutes.
A Second Chance is a vintage store located on the Upper East Side -- and a worthy one at that -- and as such, the sale makes a bit more sense, but even so, it does seem like there are things in style that should just be sacred. In this case, however, it's a testament to the reach and audience at Gilt that they're capable of selling out thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of designer merchandise in less than an hour.
