Philip King Brings Other Voices to NYC

Nonstop Sound spoke with Philip King, the executive producer of the Irish Folk Music series “Other Voices.” Since its inception nine years ago in a small coastal town of Ireland, this is the first time the musical showcase has made its way to New York City. The enchanting two-night evening of performances was curated by King, Glen Hansard and Thomas Bartlett. It was complete with the nostalgia-inducing fiddle playing of Martin Hayes and the dark, poetic readings of Gabriel Byrne, not to mention a surprise unplugged performance by Damien Rice and an inspiring electronic set from Laurie Anderson. This was truly one of the most captivating events we’ve seen, and Le Poisson Rouge was the perfect host.
