Nanette Lepore's Fashion Fantasy

"Fantasy "is Nanette Lepore's word for the fall. "Lots of light colors, silver and blue," she told us.

We stopped by the New York designer's Garment District  studio and caught her in a flurry of preparations for Fashion Week. "I've been very calm this show, with the exception of last night and a little meltdown," she laughed.

There's no stress,  just the whole fall season to design and 28-30 complete outfits to debut on the runway. Wouldn't you know that also includes matching up the clothes with complimentary make-up and hair and they hadn't even cast the models yet. Oh yes, don't forget handbags and shoes. These have to be coordinated too. "It's insane that we do what we do, because we do shows with no rehearasal," she offered in between pinning an errant pocket on a jacket.

Taking garments from the runway to the retail rack is also ever present for today's clothing creators.

There's no time for trickle down effect. It's bam, you're out of the box with it or out of the running.
