Know Right Now: Beyond Vintage

The NYC-based ladies behind Beyond Vintage, which debuted last March, took their love of all things secondhand one genius step further. They find amazing pieces from past decades, as far back as the early 1900's, and re-create them with modern fabrics and sometimes in slightly more current silhouettes. So you get that wonderful antique quality, but the clothing doesn't seem dated and isn't unraveling on the hanger. We sat down with the brand's founder, Elizabeth Klein.

How would you describe the aesthetic?

The general idea is femininity and edgy chic.  I'm hoping to be known for my pretty, lacy, silk pieces, as well as the sexy, sequin tops.  I have a broad spectrum to refer to from the very early 1900's to the 1980's and find inspiration from each decade.

Since you draw from such a wide range of decades, I'm curious if any specific ones speak to you personally style-wise?

I do have a special fondness for the 20's and 30s.

What kind of woman wears Beyond Vintage?

I think the type of girl who wears it feels connected to the concept.  She likes to throw a really special piece on that not everyone is wearing.  That's why we are have limited distribution of the brand.  We are however hanging in New York in Scoop as well as BarneysShopbop.com has been a fantastic on line partner to the brand as well.

What other designers do you admire?

I really admire Alexander Wang.  I think his collection is fresh, new and wearable.
