Janka Nabay and The Bubu Gang at MoMA
We spoke with Janka Nabay and The Bubu Gang after their performance at MoMA’s “MoMA Nights” series which is curated by Olivier Conan of Barbes. Nabay taught his native Bubu music to a few Brooklyn-based musicians to create newfangled, feel-good, Sierra Leonean folk-dance music that anyone from age 5 to 95 could enjoy. The group’s debut LP, En Yay Sah, just came out on David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label.
