Ben Lear Unveils “Lillian,” A Folk Opera

During his music composition studies at NYU, Ben Lear manifested “Lillian,” an ambitious multimedia folk opera that tells the tales of lost lovers who drift away from him and disappear to join all of his other lost possessions in “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.” Sonically, the music recalls Sufjan Stevens, complete with elaborate woodwind and string arrangements, not to mention a mini gospel choir. Catch a stripped-down and intimate version of this folk opera at Rockwood Music Hall on Sunday, Dec. 4.
