Moisture from Tropical Depression Erin combined with a cold front from the west to hit Long Island with a long, rainy evening that left some flooding conditions in spots.

The spotty showers started in the early afternoon, with wet weather coming in pockets to isolated areas all over the tri-state. As the evening hours progressed, most of the storms were concentrated on Long Island as well as the I-95 corridor in Connecticut.

While the cold front moved in and got rid of the showers that soaked the Connecticut coast, rain continued to fall for many communities in Nassau and Suffolk counties, with the effects of the tropical depression dumping inches of rain in some spots. A flood advisory had been issued for parts of Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties.

As the overnight hours approached, the storms lessened across the area until only some sprinkles were falling in certain towns. The cold front moved the rest of the wet weather out to sea, and brings in some clear skies overnight that will likely last for at least a couple days.

Sunshine stays around for the day and lasts into the weekend, Storm Team 4 says, as temps rebound into the low 80s for Thursday and into the mid and upper 80s for Friday and Saturday.

At this point, Labor Day looks a bit wet in the morning, with sun emerging later in the day and a high around 79, Storm Team 4 says.
