    What to Know

    • Monday was a fairly damp day, with slick roads for much of the day, especially during both commutes

    • The weather stays unsettled Tuesday, with afternoon thunderstorms predicted as voters head to the polls for Election Day

    • Crisp fall weather is expected to return Wednesday and Thursday, along with mostly sunny skies

Showers dampened the Tuesday morning commute for many, and Storm Team 4 says the action is expected to ramp up later.

Thunderstorms are expected to arrive midday ahead of an approaching cold front, blasting the region with whipping winds and heavy rain throughout most of the afternoon, Storm Team 4 says.

Parts of the tri-state could see a few stronger storms produce locally heavy downpours and gusty winds, though it will be a milder day with temperatures climbing back into the mid-60s. Flood advisories are in effect for Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth and Somerset counties in New Jersey through mid-afternoon. Click here to see the latest weather alerts for your neighborhood.

Don't want to get wet en route to the polls? Storm Team 4 says your best bet is to head out before noon or wait until after dinnertime. (Heads up: the city's Board of Elections says rain is contributing to the problems at polling places, so make sure you at least try to dry off your hands before you get a ballot).

Clouds should clear out late. Crisp fall weather is expected to return Wednesday and Thursday, with temps in the 50s, along with mostly sunny skies. Another round of rain heads to the tri-state to close out the workweek.
