Muggy, humid weather retook its suffocating hold on the tri-state area Wednesday before another frontal system that brought some isolated storms to the region later in the day.
The first part of the day was mostly dry, though the humidity was absolutely smothering as temperatures soared into the low-to-mid 80s by early afternoon. A round of showers and thunderstorms moved in from the west Wednesday evening, bringing some wet weather to parts of the tri-state.
While there were some heavier downpours locally, most areas were not badly disrupted for the evening commute. There were some threats for flooding after torrential rain, but most areas only saw standard showers.
The storms are expected to stretch through part of the overnight before gradually tapering off early Thursday. Rain may come come down heavy briefly during the overnight hours, and a few thunderstorms may pop up with gusty winds.

Storms should be out of the area by Thursday morning. Conditions stay sticky once the wet weather moves out, with highs only falling into the upper 60s overnight as the humidity remains, and temperatures bumping back up into the 80s during the day.
