Another round of severe storms rolled through the tri-state on Thursday, bringing more torrential rain, damaging winds and lightning strikes — one of which struck a teen in New Jersey.
The 18-year-old was with friends at a Chatham High School field around 8 p.m. when the storms arrived, and he was indirectly hit by a bolt of lightning as the group was running for cover.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was in stable condition.
The strong thunderstorms made their way over from western New York into the area around the city between 7 and 8 p.m., with multiple counties in New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut and even Staten Island being issued severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the evening. Storm Team 4 warned that the cells had potential to bring heavy winds, rain and penny-sized hail to towns in its path.
In the city, thunder and lightning rumbled through just after 8 p.m., bringing heavy rain for a matter of minutes before continuing to move west.

There were dozens of reports of trees downed and roads closed in New York's Ulster and Dutchess counties in the aftermath of the storms, but the damage in most places paled in comparison to the troubling storms that triggered a small tornado in New Jersey Wednesday.

The Giants vs. Jets pre-season game at MetLife Stadium was delayed, and fans in attendance instructed to seek shelter inside the concourse, as lightning flashed above the stadium. Though some isolated cells brought intense weather, all the nasty weather had moved out from the area by 11 p.m., setting up great weather just in time for the weekend. Expect a slightly less humid Friday with a high around 85 and the sun breaking through during the afternoon.
And that beautiful weather carries over throughout the weekend and into next week, with just the chance of some isolated thunderstorms coming back later on Tuesday.
