A new local study of the most dangerous roads for pedestrians puts two from Long Island at the top of the list.
The Hempstead Turnpike is being called the most dangerous by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign.
According to the watchdog group, 13 people were killed along the 16-mile stretch of roadway between 2006 and 2008.
Sunrise Highway in Nassau County ranked second with 11 pedestrian fatalities during that same time period.
Four other roads ranked third, with nine pedestrian deaths each: They include Burlington pike in New Jersey, Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue, Third Avenue in Manhattan, and Middle Country Road in Suffolk.
Broadway, in Manhattan, had the next most pedestrian deaths, with eight.
