Riders were warned to expect delays in and out of Manhattan's Penn Station Wednesday morning because of a broken rail in one of the East River tunnels.
The city's Office of Emergency Management tweeted a notification about anticipated delays for Amtrak, NJ Transit and Long Island Railroad customers around 7:30 a.m., and the websites for the respective transit groups lit up red shortly thereafter with an ambush of service advisories.
The LIRR said some westbound trains on at least seven branches were being canceled at Jamaica or diverted because of the broken rail. Nearly a half-dozen NJ Transit lines were experiencing at least 30-minute delays.
Service was operating on or close to schedule before 10 a.m.
Meanwhile, road commuters had it little better Wednesday morning. A three-car accident closed the outbound north tube of the Lincoln Tunnel heading toward New Jersey. NJ Transit warned of extensive bus delays departing from PABT because of the accident as well.
The tube reopened by about 9:45 a.m. There was no immediate information on possible injuries.
