What Should Obama Wear?

Maybe it's because we're finally going to have a president who's handsome, tall, and athletic. Or maybe it's because he's also young and appears to have a sense of style. (We'll ignore that washed-out-jeans-and-old-sneakers day—we all falter sometimes.) Whatever the reason, it seems like the whole fashion world is showing up on the Obamas' doorstep lately with fresh baked pies and offers to design for the first family. WWD stoked the fire by inviting menswear designers to sketch something for the inauguration—apparently ignoring the fact that, as everyone already knows, he'll be wearing a Hart Schaffner Marx tuxedo.

You can see the full slideshow of a staggering 54 looks here. The selections run the gamut from contemporary swank (Richard James Savile Row envisioned a crisp black suit and even added some prophet-like glow to the picture) to upscale mack (leave it to DSQuared2 to add a chain to tails). Personally, we preferred the pared-down-and-slender looks that Marc Jacobs, Nautica, TK. Though Thom Browne's watercolor sketches are definitely worth a look. If you get bored, you can always pop over to the sketches for Michelle: the Carolina Herrera one may be our favorite, but Betsey Johnson's red-white-and-blue sketch is worth clicking through!
