Back to BLACK: Comme Popping Up in West Chelsea

Dust off those polka dot cardigans from the H&M Collection and clear your credit cards, because Comme des Garçons' limited-edition pop-up shop is coming to NYC and it's coming soon.

Comme des Garçons BLACK, a line consistenting of Bearbrick/Medicom collaboration pieces and Comme classics in what is essentially designer Rei Kawakubo's response to the recession, is due on 10th Avenue and 17th Street by the end of this month. It should arrive around the same time as a special BLACK corner in Barneys, which has an even more limited time frame of 2 weeks from its June 22 opening.

That sure was fast; on Monday we reported on Suzy Menkes' NYT article covering Comme and Rei, and which touched on the Black brand only to the point of announcing its Paris arrival. Today we have the sweet, sweet knowledge of the New York plans.

In addition to the the West Chelsea pop-up and the corner at Barneys, more BLACK shops have already or will be finding their way to the following places:

  • Tokyo: Isetan, Ginza Mitsukoshi and Shibuya Parco
  • Nagoya: Mitsukoshi
  • Fukuoka: Iwataya
  • Osaka: NU Chayamachi
  • Hong Kong: i.T. Causeway Bay and Kowloon
  • London: Dover Street Market
  • Paris: 7 Rue de Perche and a June 22, 2-week pop-up in Colette
  • Seoul: Boon the Shop

It sure is nice to have another pop-up coming around; even if it may be pricey and all black. Comme fans will be all up on this, and the good news is that it's a short hop (or somber, avant-garde shuffle) to the main NYC CDG store at 520 West 22nd Street by 10th Avenue. Rest assured that the second this baby of Rei's opens its doors, we're be in; until then, we'll stick to spying from the High Line.
