Worship at the Alter Of “Saint Julia”

How much do you love Julia Child? Measure your devotion next Saturday, when Whisk, a sprawling cookshop on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, celebrates the grande dame's birthday between 2 and 6 p.m. It would have been Julia's -- or as the folks at Whisk refer to her, "Saint Julia" -- 97th birthday.

And Whisk is pulling out all the stops with food, drinks, live music, and Julia's classic TV show "The French Chef" playing in the background. DVDs of the series will also be on sale. And, of course, there'll be sales on all the Julia kitchen essentials, and some not-so-essentials, like "Saint Julia"-emblazoned aprons, tote bags, and the coup de grace: the "Saint Julia" sanataria candle. This is, after all, the woman who wrote the good book.

Is it all a cheap ploy to cash in on "Julie & Julia?" Who cares? Because any cook who is this bad-ass should definitely be revered as a saint.
