Truffles Tribeca Continues to Out-Snob All Challengers

Capitalism may have collapsed, but Truffles Tribeca—previously known as the Jack Parker Site and the North Tribeca Mystery Building—is still chugging along with its highfaluting whisper campaign. The assumed rental building, currently getting its skin at 450 Washington Street, has updated its website to mention a January '09 opening. Oh, and there's this: "Our 18th-c. opium bed — the pièce de résistance of Truffles' private club — didn't make it onto the container leaving Shanghai — will arrive for our opening January 09." Okey dokey. The website also features a pair of moody short films starring the project's architect and interior designer, aka the "tastemakers." Dear Truffles Tribeca: You are a brand new building on the water in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the country. You don't have to try so hard. Love, Curbed.
