The Amazing Transformable 24-in-1 Apartment

Think your apartment's small? Check out Gary Chang's studio, which literally packs 24 living spaces into 344 square feet.

You never know when the recession may get so bad, you have to pack your whole family into less than 400 square feet. And ICYMI, Gary Chang's apartment featured in yesterday's Times is 344 square feet, but thanks to a very complicated system of sliding walls, foldout everything (from chairs to kitchen counters to the bed), and a remote-controlled system so high-tech it draws references to robots, he can use his apartment 24 ways.

Other fun highlights: The Hong Kong space was originally built with three bedrooms (!), Chang's renovation (one in a series) into what he calls the "Domestic Transformer" cost just over $218,000, and there's a "guest bed that hovers over the bathtub." Dive into the eerie world of the "human briefcase," with photos galore.
