The era of the Free Ride in Red Hook isn't drawing to a close, but it's being constricted. Ikea is cutting both its free shuttle bus and water taxi services because of what it says is a drop in customers using them. As of Oct. 1, buses will run from 1PM to 10PM instead of 10AM to 10PM and will be every 30 minutes instead of 15. Water taxi hours are being cut back to 1PM-9PM rather than 10AM-10PM and boats will run every 40 minutes instead of 20 minutes. The Golden Age was short, but sweet. [NYDN]
