Opening in May, FiDi's W Hotel Shows Signs of Life

There were times we thought this day would never come, but we can now safely say the Financial District's W New York Downtown Hotel and Residences is "coming soon." Coming May 4, to be precise. The 56-story tower down at 123 Washington Street, brought to us by the glass-loving gang at the Moinian Group, is now showing off its sleek entryway. A big brass canopy shelters the doorways leading inside to both the condos and hotel rooms, and, at center, hovers over an illuminated plaque for the building and its upcoming BLT Bar & Grill. Follow the rounded base at Washington Street to a little plaza on Carlisle Street and find the main entry to the restaurant, the newest addition to Laurent Tourondel's BLT Empire, recently revealed over at Eater.

The Gwathmey Siegel-designed tower of checkered glass overlooks the World Trade Center site to the north, and will have even better views once that cursed neighbor finally comes down. Up top the glass is nearly complete. This market throwback—remember the Shvotacular sales office?—has 29 units in contract, according to StreetEasy. Prices still hover in the $2,000/ft range, but the building's most eligible bachelor may be able to get you a deal if you ask nicely.
