"Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is cashing in big-time by being a favorite of Mayor Bloomberg." Since 2003, the man who everybody calls Marty has gotten about $2.7 million in city money for three nonprofits he set up to pay for concerts and "other pet projects." Some people say the programs "have been instrumental" in helping make Marty popular. (At least to the people that like the guy.) Other borough presidents have collected a fraction of the city cash that's gone to Marty. This is not to be confused with the city contracts Marty has given to his nonprofits. [NYP]
