Grand Army Plaza Would Get Frenched by the People

Ooh la la. Remember that competition of crazy renderings with ideas about Reinventing Grand Army Plaza, that vast stretch of space and possible death by auto where Flatbush Avenue, Prospect Park West, Eastern Parkway and other street converge by Prospect Park? Well, both a jury and people voting by texting have selected this design called "Canopy" from a group from Nantes, France. Per the submission, it's "a strategy of spanning different areas and uses with a connective or sheltering roof. This modern landscape brings natural beauty to the Plaza without mimicking the pastoral landscape of Prospect Park." Indeed. Does it mean anything? Uh, no. Not in the sense of something being built. C'est la vie.
