Frank Gehry's Nets area at Atlantic Yards may yet suffer a fate even more brutal than Santiago Calatrava's WTC PATH Terminal, in that the later may be turned into a fancy tent but will be built. Someday. On the other hand, the Gehrmiester's $1 billion masterwork could be...dare we say...doomed in its current form and value engineered into something else by some dude with an office in Orlando, Florida. But, let's not focus on the pile of crap, let's fix our eyes on the pony instead: The first of eight playgrounds being funded with $150,000 from Nets owner Bruce Ratner and Barclays Bank is being unveiled today at PS 19 in Williamsburg. Maybe the Nets can play a season or two there if they toss in a basketball court? [NYP]
