CurbedWire: Willets Point Redevelopment Approved, Four Points Party Report

WILLETS POINTTalk about an anticlimax. After 18 months or so of ultra-heated debate, the opponents of Mayor Bloomberg's major Willets Point redevelopment proposal in Queens folded like a deck of cards in the run-up to the big City Council vote. As for the vote, a Curbed tipster on hand tells us it was a landslide in favor of the plan. Our tipster also relays this quote spoken during the proceedings by a councilman: "We can build all the housing we want, but if the brothers' ain't got no money for bread, it don't matter." Truer words never spoken. Team Bloomberg did throw three of the bigger landowners a bone, letting them stay on the land, at least temporarily. [CurbedWire Inbox]

SOHO—The 150-room Four Points by Sheraton down at 66 Charlton Street—the Lam Group-developed, Gene Kaufman-designed, farmhouse-topped curiosity at the bottom of Soho—held an opening party last night, and a Curbed tipster was on hand: "Went to the Grand Opening Party and the Four Points Soho hotel is really nice. The suites are ridiculous with perfect views of the Empire State Building. The bathrooms are marble with showers or tubs. The Lam Group sourced a lot of their items from Italy. Open bar made the party extremely fun as there were many execs there due to the hotel show at the Javits center this week. The odd thing is, I saw the CEO of Starwood there. That's hard to do. They must really care for their franchisees in this down economy to show that much support." Who doesn't love an open bar? The photo at right comes from this collection of pics from the event.
