Brooklyn Hotels Are Hurting

New high-end hotels are offering deep discounts

With the Manhattan hotel biz suffering (De Niro's Greenwich Hotel at 40% capacity!), one has to assume that the Brooklyn hotel boom is worse off, and that appears to be the case. New high-end hotels like Fourth Avenue's Le Bleu (right) and Smith Street's Nu are deeply discounting rooms, and Williamsburg's BQE-overlooking Le Jolie is down 60% in occupancy for the year. Says voracious hotel developer Sam Chang, "Brooklyn . . . is hurting pretty bad. There are too many hotels." Gee, Sam, how'd it get that way? [NYDN]
