Ask Curbed: What Are My Gas Rights?: “Apparently ten days ago, a contractor…

"Apparently ten days ago, a contractor working on behalf of the commercial tenant on the first floor of my West Village apartment building allegedly (according to ConEd) did not properly follow safety procedures when turning off and then turning back on gas to our building. As a result of this, ConEd turned off the gas to all ranges in the building. This was 11 days ago. Our landlord is advising us that it will be at least another week until service is restored. They also advise that it is likely a contractor will have to replace piping in our apartment, which is obviously a major inconvenience. Is this a violation of the Warranty of Habitability? Do we have any rights?" [Ask Curbed inbox]
