Guy Wildenstein, the president of the Wildenstein Galleries and—if our family tree is correct—the ex-brother-in-law of the cat lady, bought five apartments in the Plaza on the fourth and fifth floors for a combined $49 million. He planned on creating a massive duplex "private wing" for his family, but now the "fishbowl atmosphere" at the Plaza (worldwide reports on lawsuits and transactions, etc.) is causing him to sell. One fifth-floor apartment is already sold and another is listed for $10 million. And now, the three fourth-floor apartments (including the Frank Lloyd Wright suite) have hit the market for $46.5 million. That's 8,000 square feet of space! [NYT; listing]
