A-Rod Scores Upper West Side Apartment: Reports

Yankee slugger reportedly agrees to pay up to $6 million for swanky new digs

Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez finally brought home one of the most talked about celebrity real estate hunts in recent history with his purchase of a four-bedroom apartment in a swanky new building on the Upper West Side, according to published reports.

The hunky Bronx Bomber reportedly made a deal to purchase a full-floor condo overlooking the Hudson River at the Rushmore –- a new development comprised of two hulking 41-story towers on Riverside Boulevard.

A-Rod has yet to ink a contract, but a source familiar with the deal says the third baseman agreed to pay between $5.5 million and $6 million for his new digs, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The cost of the 3,600-square-foot apartment falls below the average market price for similar condos with equally stunning views, the paper says, citing Madonna's $32.5 million purchase of three adjoining townhouses on the Upper East Side.

A-Rod's been on the real estate prowl in New York for nearly seven years and has earned a reputation among even the most luxurious developers as a "savvy real estate buyer," reports the Journal.

"I think he knows every building in the city," Gary Barnett, the developer of the Rushmore, told the paper. "He studies it the way he studies pitchers. He knocked it out of the park with this one."

Incidentally, A-Rod will also net an enviable view of Riverside South Park with his reported acquisition, but the new condo likely won't be his only home. The Yankee has also been spotted canvassing real estate in Miami Beach.

A-Rod last owned a four-bedroom unit at Trump Park Avenue on East 59th Street, a $7.4 million purchase he made in 2005 only to put on the market three years later amid allegations he cheated on his now ex-wife, Cynthia. That apartment sold for $9.9 million in 2009, according to the Journal.
