Pinocchio at 10 Waverly Place in the West Village is so new (less than a week, as of this writing), the owner’s son handed me a hand-written menu fresh off the copy machine. Pinocchio replaces Caffe Pane e Cioccolato which stood there for at least 30 years, time-worn, and comfortable and now gone. Pinocchio is moderately priced, serves up rustic southern Italian fare and thin crust pizza, made-to-order. It has a full bar and is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week until 11pm -- and they don't push you out even then. Try the eggplant parm if you want something a little different. It’s not smothered in goopy cheese.
