Why: We were already in deep love with Terrance Brennan’s original Artisanal on 32nd Street off Park Avenue South; his newish spin on the mostly-cheese concept goes full-on bistro, with petits plats, pissaladières from a wood-fired oven and a cheese-and-charcuterie bar. And did we mention birdcage chadeliers?
What to order off the RW menu: We’ll try the chickpea frites with tapenade or the cavatelli pasta with anchovy crumb, cauliflower, capers and mint to start (the frites are lunch only, the cavatelli is available at dinner as well). The pissaladière du jour – longish, savory pies perfect for sharing -- would be our next pick: we’ve tried the tartiflette (bacon, Reblochon cheese) and the duck confit versions, both of which are decadent without leaving you in a food coma. For dessert, go light: watermelon granite with lime cloud sounds perfect. (See the full menu here.)
