Per a phone call to the establishment (and the confirm from Diner's Journal), H&H Bagels reopened for business Friday afternoon following its unceremonious shuttering at the hands of the taxman.
Its 80th Street location was tagged Friday with a sign for three hours that read: "property seized for lack of payment of taxes."
Elsewhere on the Upper West Side, others have not been so lucky; per a tipster, "Just walked by the Elite Cafe on Columbus, and it was shuttered due to non-payment of taxes. In combo with H&H, it looks like the taxman has been busy recently." (Calls to Elite were met with the dreaded endless ring this afternoon. YDHTST.) [EaterWire]
H&H is a Manhattan bagel landmark, but its store on West 46th Street also was closed for a spell Friday.
