6/8: World Cup of Cheese, Patty Griffin…

…and the Museum Mile Festival

ART SAVES: Hey, culture-loving tightwads, it’s your favorite holiday! As part of the annual Museum Mile Festival, visit eight museums on Fifth Avenue for free tonight: The Met, the Museum of the City of New York, the Jewish Museum, the National Academy Museum, the Guggenheim, the Cooper-Hewitt, el Museo del Barrio and the Neue Galerie all throw open their doors for gratis tours between 6 and 9PM.

SONGBIRD: Patty Griffin has written and performed some of the most indelible melodies of our age, quietly securing a spot in the country-crossover pantheon of greats thanks to tunes like “Up to the Mountain (MLK Song).” She comes to the Town Hall for the first of two nights with special guest Buddy Miller, who’s toured with her before and also collaborated with everyone from Shawn Colvin to Lucinda Williams. Should be an affecting set. 8PM.

GOAL: World Cup of Cheese. Do we have your attention? (Too late, it's sold out). Just in time for the FIFA World Cup, City Winery taps in experts from Murray’s to lead you through a face-off between two rival nations: France and Italy will compete cheese to cheese (and grape to grape—there’ll be wine pairings) and you’ll decide whose curds reign supreme (coughfrancecough). 6:30PM.
